Ep. 35: Straight Up No Chaser (Judas & the Black Messiah)
In this episode, I am joined by my friend, author, educator, mover, and all-around phenomenal woman, Keena Day (who is also a Commissioner for the City of Commerce’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission). We discuss (without scripts or filters) the movie Judas and the Black Messiah, which focuses on Chairman Fred — the Illinois Black Panther Party's assassinated Chairman. We discuss the film from a cinematic perspective but mainly focus on the historical aspects of the movie.
But naturally, with an astute and influential Africana Womanist, the conversation naturally flowed into:
Understanding the Black plight;
Recognizing and harnessing your power as a Black man or woman;
Dismantling the perception that educated Black folks are a threat, but instead, should be understood as an integral part of progression;
The power of Black People, including how women were placed front and center during the Black Panther Party’s movement; and
more…
In honor of Black History Month, this was a necessary, stimulating, and organic conversation.
