Ep. 61: Black Happy Hour!!
#seasonfive #black #happyhour #GeorgeFloyd #BuffaloShooting #jacksonvilleflorida #hatecrime
In this episode, Sean begins to discuss whether or not the 2-year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder represents a Great Erasure as discussed in a recent New York Times article. During this time, racial reckoning was occurring, but since then, folks have pushed counterintuitive agenda items, such as the critical race theory debacle and states passing laws restricting the means and manner in which citizens protest. Does the erosion of the Black Lives Matter murals and paintings represent an erosion of the movement? Are the artists’ voices lost?
He also discusses the horrific and senseless attack of 23-year-old Rayme McCoy by 59-year-old sex offender Kevin Williamson at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida (video of the incident is from News4Jax). Why is just being black an issue for some many? He discusses the implications of the issue, including whether bystanders have an obligation to intervene. And this conversation segues to the horrific Buffalo New York shooting involving 18-year-old domestic terrorist Payton Gendron.
Lastly, the discussion moves to whether or not, we as Black people, need to use our votes to save the democracy – stemming from a conversation Uncle Luke began on Twitter.
